I prefer some thing mild soothing and effective without unnecessary ingredients. From new born to at least 6 month old baby have particularly sensitive skin, so you have to be very care full for what you choose to apply on their skin. Diaper rashes in particular make the baby more irritating, those red, sore areas are very pain full for mothers to see as well.
The best ingredient for soothing the rash area is zinc oxide and we are using it as well. You can get it in non-nano powder form or can buy pure zinc oxide cream from the pharmacy. Most of the rash creams also use zinc oxide. Apart from that we will use the moisturizing ingredients like bees wax or you can also use cocoa butter or Shea butter to keep the skin moisturized.
We are few essential oils like tea tree oil and lavender oil for healing the rash quickly while also protecting the skin from germs. Keep in mind to never use any essential oil directly on baby's skin, specially on the broken area as they have high potency. You can skip the essential oils, if you don't want to add them in cream.
So let me tell share this recipe in detail.
Ingredients
- 4 teaspoons zinc oxide
- 2 teaspoons beeswax
- 1 teaspoon shea/coco butter (Optional)
- 1 tb of almond oil
- 2 drops lavender essential oil (Optional)
- 2 drops tea tree essential oil (Optioanl)
- One glass jar
Heat the beeswax on double boiler until it is melted. If adding Shea/cocoa butter, lessen the wax quantity to 1teaspon and add 1 teaspoon of any butter. Mix them well on boiler. Once the wax is melted, remove from heat and add almond oil. after mixing properly now add zinc oxide and mix them slowly until they are merged together. You can add the essential oil very carefully now, one drop at a time, so you don't put more oil then needed. Mix again and once it is cooled down transfer the mixture in glass jar.
Application
Keep the jar in dark cool place. When ever you need to apply the cream, take out a very small amount with spatula or spoon and apply very thin layer. Just apply with light hands and don't rub or try to blend. The layer is what we need to sooth and heal the rash.
Also try to let the baby stay diaper free for sometime, so the skin can breathe and dry on its own. You can also use this cream on other rashes or in fact can use for yourself as well if needed.
